How To Cook Turkey In An Instant Pot?
Directions:
First, we make our stuffing! Place bread, onion and celery into a large mixing bowl. Add sage, thyme and salt and pepper to melted butter and mix well. Pour over bread. Stir well.
Stuff stuffing into the turkey breast. The breast is split, so make sure you don’t over stuff it so it busts open!
Fold a long piece of tin foil in half and place it over the stuffing. Wrap it around the turkey breast and flip it over and place it into the instant pot (stuffing side down).
Mix garlic powder, basil, sage, thyme and salt and pepper together. Use a pastry brush to spread butter onto turkey breast. Sprinkle with seasonings. Wrap foil loosely around turkey and fold edges over.
Add 1 cup water to the pot and place the lid onto the instant pot and close the pressure valve.
Set the Instant Pot to Poultry, high pressure for 35 minutes. Let naturally release for 20-30 minutes. Release pressure valve and open instant pot. Check to see if the turkey has reached 165°. If not, lock the lid in place and cook it for a few more minutes.
Unwrap the foil and use it to lift the turkey out of the pot. Remove stuffing and carve turkey breast. Are you starting to be convinced that this is the best Instant Pot turkey recipe ever?!?!
Use remaining dripping from Instant Pot to make gravy! You can do this right in the Instant Pot using the saute function. Just skim the fat off the top, add 3 tablespoons cornstarch with 3 tablespoons cold water and add it slowly to the juices. Whisk often and let thicken and season to taste.
How Long To Cook Turkey In An Instant Pot
We cooked our for about 35 minutes and let the pressure naturally release for about 25 minutes. In general, you should count on about 6 minutes of cooking per pound of turkey. Just make sure you put a thermometer in the thickest part of the meat to see if the internal temperature has gotten to 165 degrees.
Can You Cook A Frozen Turkey In A Pressure Cooker?
One of the great things about an Instant Pot is that you can cook a lot of meats without the need to thaw them. That being said, I WOULD NOT cook a frozen turkey. Generally, you are always supposed to thaw out your turkey before cooking and that stays true here in our pressure cooker. Also, we are putting stuffing in turkey, we would need to cook it a little too long if cooking from frozen.
So, make sure you thaw your turkey first. You’ll need about 6 hours per pound of turkey to thaw in your refrigerator. SO plan accordingly.
What To Do With Leftover Turkey?
Sure, you can make turkey sandwiches. But there are other delicious things you can do as well. Like make this Turkey Pot Pie or a Turkey Salad Sandwich!
Notes, Tips and Variations
- CRISPY SKIN – If you want to get a crispy skin, stick it under the broiler for a couple minutes once it’s done cooking. Just keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn!
- PAT TURKEY DRY – Turkeys always cook a little better if you can pat them dry before cooking. Just use some paper towels to quickly pat it dry!
