This Instant Pot Salmon with lemon slices recipe can be made with both fresh and frozen salmon fillets. It is a healthy fish recipe that can be paired with rice, asparagus or even potatoes for a nice wholesome meal. Making salmon in your pressure cooker ensures that it is moist and flaky.
I have cooked everything from chicken, to beef, even desserts in my pressure cooker but nothing is easier not to mess up than using it to cook fish. I have a tendency to over cook my fish when I bake or cook fish in a skillet. Using my Instant Pot is an almost foolproof method for cooking salmon.
How do you cook salmon in an Instant Pot?
For this recipe, you will want to use the “Steam” function on your pressure cooker. The steam function will “pressure steam” the fish to perfection. It only takes 3 to 4 minutes on steam to cook your salmon, if you have a thicker salmon steak or filet, I would increase the cooking time to 4 minutes.
Can I use frozen salmon in the Instant Pot?
Yes you can! One of the great bonuses to using a pressure cooker is that you can cook proteins from frozen. To do this you will add 1 to 2 minutes to the cooking time so if you have a frozen piece of salmon increase the cooking time to 4 minutes. If your salmon is extra thick, try 5 minutes.
The Instant Pot company has a great cooking time tool on their website that can help answer some of your questions about cooking times.
What are good spices to season salmon with?
For our recipe we used parsley, basil, and dill. Rosemary and thyme also pair well with salmon. You could also give it a little Asian spin and use some garlic, and ginger and sprinkle on some sesame seeds when you serve it.
What other fish can I cook in my instant Pot?
Besides salmon, you can really cook any type of fish you like in the pressure cooker. Tilapia is a great option as well as Ahi Tuna and Halibut. Any type of fish that you would normally steam can be made in your Instant Pot. The pressure cooker is also great for seafood.
