Thanksgiving: The Usual Suspects
Most of us love the usual Thanksgiving fare. After all, there is nothing wrong with turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes. When I show up for my family’s Thanksgiving feast, I can be sure that I will see all of the usual suspects, and I am totally fine with that. But sometimes, someone brings a dish that is just a little bit different. A dish that I have never seen before. More often than not, that dish becomes the big hit that year.
This year, I wanted to try to do something like that. I want to show up to Thanksgiving dinner with something unique, eye-catching and a little bit adventurous.
Sweet Tea Rice with Cranberries and Pecans
So, I had the idea to make sweet tea rice with cranberries and pecans. This dish is going to look great on the table and it will go great with the turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes. I am certain this will be the star of the Thanksgiving spread.
Sweet Tea Rice is a really fun side dish to make with just about any meal. It is sweet and savory all at the same time. There are lots of things that you can add to it to give it it’s own unique flair. I have heard of people adding jalapeno to it, which sounds amazing! I love the sweet and spicy combo that would create.
For this recipe, I decided to add cranberries and pecans for a traditional Thanksgiving feel.
Milo’s Iced Teas
The real secret ingredient of this recipe is that Iced Tea that you use. We have always been a huge fan of Milo’s award-winning Teas, an ideal beverage for holiday meals. Not all teas are made equal, many use added colors and preservatives. This is why we use Milo’s, which is always made with all natural ingredients.
Founded over 70 years ago by Milo and Bea Carlton, they have never strayed from the philosophy of using quality ingredients, listening to customers and never sacrificing taste.
When I make any dish, especially an important dish for Thanksgiving, I want to make sure that I am using the best ingredients possible. Your dish will only be as good as the ingredients that you put into it. Just take one look at the short, simple ingredient list on Milo’s Iced Tea and you can be certain they have the same philosophy. Their Sweet Tea is sweetened with pure cane sugar, filtered water, and freshly brewed tea. Nothing more. Nothing less.

When making this recipe, it really pays off to toast the pecans. It gives it a nice nutty flavor to the rice. When you add the dried cranberries, there is a delicious nutty and sweet flavor going on that you are going to love. The sweet tea gives it that extra flavor to put it over the top.
Trust me, you are going to want to make a double batch!
