As we have been sheltering in place this past couple of months I have been pulling out a lot of our favorite recipes to make at home. This recipe is an adaptation of one of our favorite crab dips and it turned out absolutely amazing! Who doesn’t love cheesy crab baked in an oven? The best part is that we used a new to us product that made this recipe so easy to make.
Have you ever tried to find imitation crab that actually tastes as good as the real stuff? I have tried a few different brands, but nothing has come as close as Aquamar Surimi Flakes! Surimi is so close to the taste of real crab that I can use it interchangeably in crab dips, crab cakes, and even sushi, it is really delicious!
What is Surimi?
So what is surimi? Surimi is crab-flavored seafood, made with wild-caught Alaska Pollock and Pacific Whiting. Surimi is a naturally great source of protein and doesn’t contain saturated or trans fats. It is a great substitution for any traditional crab recipe such as crab cakes or this Hot Crab Dip recipe.
Aquamar is America’s #1 seller of shred style surimi and is available at Walmart stores nationwide. Aquamar surimi is sustainably and ethically sourced using only the highest quality fish. I am very impressed with the taste as it is the closest to authentic crab flavor as I have found in the super market. It is really easy to use and as an added bonus you don’t have to double check for pieces of shell left behind!
What can you make with Surimi?

How to Make Hot Crab Dip
Who doesn’t love a hot crab dip? We took our recipe and used Aquamar Surimi flakes in place of the crab and it was absolutely amazing! I won’t be making this any other way after this. My daughter couldn’t get enough of it, I think she was personally responsible for eating about half of the dip herself!
Once you make this recipe you can feel free to add a little spice, but for a kid-friendly version we left it out when we made it. The result is a creamy, delicious crab dip recipe that is going to be a hit with friends and family!
