  • 1 lb cubed beef I actually used beef stew meat since that’s what i had in my freezer. You can use a chuck roast, too
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 head fresh broccoli cut into chunks
  • sesame seeds (optional for serving
  • cooked white rice for serving
  • cornstarch slurry: 2 tablespoons cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 cup water

  1. Cut broccoli into chunks and steam in microwave or stove top until tender. Set aside.
  2. Add beef, oil, onion and garlic in the pressure cooker. Saute until meat is brown on all sides and onion is translucent.

  3. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Add broth, soy sauce and brown sugar and mix well.
  5. Place the lid on the pressure cooker and seal shut. Close the pressure release valve. Set the instant pot to manual, high pressure for 10 minutes.

  6. When cooking is complete, quick release the steam and open the pot.
  7. Stir in broccoli and saute. When mixture begins to bubble, add the cornstarch slurry to thicken.
  8. Serve over white rice and top with sesame seeds.

Recipe Notes

The brown sugar mixed into the sauce gives this Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli a little bit of a sweet flavor. I think this would be a fun dish to add a little spice to as well. Maybe put some Sriracha sauce on before serving? I love that slightly sweet and spicy combination!
