Moving into our new home last year was the highlight of my summer. We have needed to move for a while and finally we had all of our ducks in a row and were able to make it happen. Our new house is about twice the size as our old one, and therefore I have been having a lot of fun painting and styling each room to fit our personality. Luckily, a couple of months before we moved I attended a Home Fashion Workshop hosted at my local Havertys store that helped teach me how to accessorize my home. The Havertys Home Fashion Workshops teach you ways that you can improve and style your home.
At my last workshop I learned 3 important tips when it comes to accessorizing my home that I have used in every room that I have decorated in my new home
1. Every room should have a focal point, something that sticks out. I learned that a lot of designers would choose one black piece to add to every room that they decorate to accomplish this.
I found this trunk that I think would be a great focal point:
2. I learned that I shouldn’t be afraid of mixing woods in a single room. In fact, a couple days after the workshop I read in one of my decor magazines that matching furniture is outdated and that mixing pieces will give your rooms personal style.
3. One quick and easy way to update a room and to make a dramatic statement is to add a rug to your space. I have added two already in my new home thanks to this tip!
I can’t wait to attend some more Havertys Home Fashion Workshops as I move from room to room adding some style to our new home. Havertys has a great lineup of workshops in store for 2014 that I am excited about.
2014 Home Fashion Workshop Schedule:
February 22 – Organization
April 12 – Staycation
June 14 – Decorating ABC’s
August – Fan Cave
October 18 – Style vs. Trendy
November 22 – Rooms: Blah to Beautiful
I am not sure what workshop I am most excited about, but I think the Style vs. Trendy and Blah to Beautiful both sound like something I would love. Did I mention that these were free workshops? I love learning about personal style and fashion designing on a budget!
