I love to celebrate summer. My parents have been here for about a week visiting the kids
and I. We have loved having them here and wanted to be sure that we were able to make a lot of memories and, of course, eat good food. My husband decided that he was going to smoke a Pork Butt the other day. My mom and I went shopping and got a fantastic looking pork, but it was 11 pounds. He had to start it the night before to make sure it was finished in time for dinner the next day, oops! I felt bad and decided to make it up to him by making my own BBQ sauce and creating a special dessert for everyone! I was amazed by how easy making my own homemade BBQ sauce was, and it is so much better than the store bought stuff! I even had time to pair my meal with some summer drinks!
I started my shopping on my weekly trip to Walmart. When I first walked in to my local store I saw Lipton Tea and immediately knew it was going to be tea time!
I picked up some of my favorite Klondike bars along with my son’s favorite Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream for a fun dessert and headed home.
When I got home I started brewing my Liption Tea for my BBQ sauce. Yes, that’s right! My secret ingredient to my homemade BBQ sauce is a strong batch of freshly brewed Lipton Tea. While I had the tea out, I made a batch of Iced Tea to mix with lemonade for a refreshing summer drink.
It took over 12 hours, but my husband finished the pork just in time for dinner! He finished pulling it right when my homemade BBQ sauce was finishing its cooling phase in the fridge.
We cut some hamburger buns and piled it high with smoked pork, smothering it with my homemade BBQ sauce. It was the perfect summer meal…
- 2 cups strong brewed Lipton iced tea
- 1 1/2 cup ketchup
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons A-1 steak sauce
- 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Lower temperature to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Let cool and store in an airtight container (Mason Jars work best)
- Makes about 3 cups of sauce
… well almost! Every good summer meal needs a summer treat to end it, right? So I created a sundae to go along with our meal.
I absolutely love Peanut Butter Klondike bars, and what goes better with peanut butter than bananas? The sundae was very simple, I took a scoop of Jonah’s favorite NewYork Super Fudge Chunk Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream and covered it with diced Reese’s Klondike bars, sliced bananas, whipped cream and a few almond slivers. It was perfect!
Making your own homemade BBQ sauce is simple, yet amazingly easy. I promise once you try it you won’t go back. Just don’t forget the secret ingredient, Liption Tea!
