A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School #BacktoSchoolwithBSK

As we head back to school next week (gulp!), I thought I might share a funny little story with you!  As you may know I am a first grade teacher at a public school. Being a full time working mom can be very difficult and has caused a few little mishaps over the years.  One huge one happened this past year.  I have to be at school pretty early in the morning.  My husband and I have a routine where we get the kids ready for daycare and then have them eating their breakfast while we get ready for work.  This particular morning, my infant daughter soiled her diaper right before we were heading out the door.  I ran back in and changed her diaper (it was an extreme mess) and ran her back to my husband so we could all make it to daycare and work on time.

An hour later I was walking into my school as I was just in time for my morning meeting.  I noticed that my sweet little girl got a little of her business on my shirt.  I never noticed!  I was embarrassed, to say the least, and without a shirt to wear.  Luckily my assistant principal came to the rescue with a school shirt that I borrowed for the rest of the day.

The moral of the story is that you can never predict what may happen as we head to school, but we can prepare ourselves the best that we can.  This year I am keeping a spare set of clothes in my classroom for any oopsie moments!

Here are a few tips to avoid any Back to School mishaps

1. Label your child’s clothing and supplies.

I will be labeling and organizing my kids’ school and daycare things to make sure our things get returned and not mixed up with other students.  I use small labels to mark my daughter’s pacifiers (hopefully this is the last year for those).  Can you imagine if she got hers mixed up with someone elses?  Gross!  I also have seen another little boy with the same backpack as Jonah and I want to be sure his things get home so a label is a must.

2. Keep a change of clothes in your child’s backpack.

While they won’t be changing any diapers, young kids can have accidents at school and would feel more comfortable wearing their own clothes instead of ones borrowed from the school.  I see this often even in first grade.

3. Get lunches and clothes ready the night before

Not having to rush in the morning with help make sure nothing is forgotten.  I don’t know how many times I have forgotten my lunch because I am in a huge hurry to get out the door.  I also like to avoid searching for outfits for my kids in the morning.  Being half asleep while picking out clothes has made for some interesting outfits.

Getting organized for back to school has never been easier or more stylish.  Bright Star’s most popular School Labels kit, has all the stick-on and iron-on labels you’ll need for your kids belongings.

Stick-on labels are extremely durable, so they’ll withstand the wear and tear of dishwashers. They’re 100% waterproof and scratch resistant. They’ll stick to most kinds of plastics and will stay stuck for years. When you’re ready to remove them, simply peel off and no residue will be left behind.

Iron-on labels are quick and easy to pop on to all your kids clothing. They will stay stuck in the toughest washing machine and clothes dryer cycle, and will still look great in years to come.

Do you start school soon like we do? No need to worry, it’s quick and easy to get labeling. Simply order online and with free shipping you’ll have your labels in no time.

Put a label on it! Kick off the school year right and prevent unnecessary mishaps. Reply below for $5 off your Bright Star Kids order.
