I don’t buy myself clothes very often unless the clothes are classic and will be durable enough to withstand a mommy lifestyle.  If I am going to spend money on clothes it needs to be stylish, yet classic, and durable.  I recently had the chance to work with a company that specializes in all three of my criteria for clothes.  DownEast Basics is an affordable classic and stylish online clothing boutique perfect for women and moms everywhere!

I wanted to share our experience with the Tassimo. We have been using the Tassimo exclusively in house as our coffee maker for the past couple of weeks and I am ready to share our thoughts.  First, here is a little demonstration from yours truly on how the Tassimo operates:

My Thoughts:

I have fallen in love with the Tassimo.  Not only is this machine a wonderful single serve coffee maker, tea maker and hot cocoa maker, it is the only one (single serve brewer) that can also make coffee house speciality drinks like cappuccinos, lattes and mochicatos.  I love that I don’t waste a half a carafe of coffee because I am the only one who drinks it in my house.  I love that I can brew a cup of hot water for my tea bags without taking out the old, ugly kettle and waiting for the water to boil.  My husband loves that it is compact and doesn’t take up a lot of space on the counter (much less than our prior coffee maker).  He also has tried the iced late that we received with our brewer a few times.  I absolutely love this machine.  I am planing on taking it with me on vacation when we go up to Michigan in late July since it doesn’t take up much space.

Misikko -Hana Professional Flat Iron 1″ Pink Edition Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

You know the ladies with the really frizzy hair back in the 80′s?  Well, that is me.  I have weird hair that can’t decide if it wants to be curly or straight and so it is just frizzy.  I have battled it my whole life and at some point in the early 90′s embraced it.  Sometimes I would perm my hair so that it would stay curly, and other times I would take an iron and have a friend iron it straight.  In the past few years I have been using a flat iron to straighten it but with my thick course hair it takes a long time that frankly I don’t have time for everyday.  It can really be a big pain, but you gotta do what you gotta do to be presentable (thus I wear my hair in a ponytail a lot).  I recently had the opportunity to test a professional flat iron from Misikko.

I have loved the experience of owning the Hana Flat Iron.  This iron has cut my straighting time in half.  It heats up to 450 degrees (allowing you to set the temperature) giving me straight hair with every stroke of the wand.  My last straightener took me at least 2-3 times from root to end for the hair to be as straight as I wanted it to be (I just know I was really damaging my hair). Mommy’s Time Out Wine

I got the perfect Mother’s Day gift the other day.  My bottle of Mommy’s Time Out Wine.  It came so beautifully wrapped in a navy bag with an adorable flower on it.  Moms everywhere would be impressed with the packaging.  Equally as impressive is the wine itself.  I received the Garganega /Pinot Grigio 2009.  I am usually a red wine drinker but if I am going to drink a white Pinot Grigio is the only way to go.  I thought Mommy’s Time Out was a very nice wine especially for a wine that retails under $10.00.  You can purchase Mommy’s Time Out online (1877spirits) or you can go into your local liquor store, if it is not available the liquor store can order it for you.

I love office supplies.  I could sit and read through an Office Max catalogue like it was the newest edition of Vogue.  I love to be organized!  Being organized gives me a calm peace that I thrive on.  Seeing something cluttered brings on stress.  I recently had the opportunity to review Mead’s wonderful new line of organizational tools designed for moms.

I am in love with my new Expense Tracker.   I used to have a crummy old folder that I stuffed all of our bills into and hoped I didn’t lose one along the way.  My bills are now safely enclosed in one of the see-through pockets inside the Expense Tracker. The three ringed tracker includes monthly undated pockets that hold bills and receipts. The rings open to allow you to add any page into your binder.  There is even a place where you can go on Mead’s website to print off refill pages.  I highly recommend any mom to have one of these if she is the bill payer in the family.

Another of my favorite products is the Family To-Do Magnetic Notepad.  I love To-Do lists.  They help to keep me on track and to never miss an important thing that I need to have done.  I used this pad a lot in the past couple of weeks when planing BJ’s first birthday party.  The magnetic pad is labeled for things that I need to do, and things that I need others to do. Every family needs one of these pads.

We also received a very stylish wall calendar (that includes useful repositionable labels that you can easily move from month to month) and the address book that I desperately needed.  All of the Mead OrganizHER products come styled in a teal/orange paisley print and are extremely durable.  A great gift for any organized woman (or one who needs to be).

I love putting my hair back into a ponytail.  I can’t have my hair in my face during the day when working with kids, it bothers me.  I have a nice collection of black ponytail holders.  I wear the same ones almost every day (unless its a special occasion and then I might actually leave my hair down).  I needed another option to keep my hair back and I found it with the Flexi8 flexible barrette.  So what is a Flexi8? I love that these flexible barrettes are very easy to use and they are stylish so that when I put my hair back in a ponytail it looks like I made more of an effort to do my hair than I actually did (hey, I am a mom.  I don’t have a lot of time to spare these days). There are so many different styles you can use with the Flexi8.  My favorite is the “Drop Bun”.   I have very thick hair and thought that I would need to use the larger sizes of barrettes, but for my coarse thick hair the “medium” size works great.  The company actually told us that most women will over-estimate what size they need so keep that in mind when you are browsing for your new Flexi8.  Here are a couple of the many different styles Flexi8 offers:

I can remember when earth friendly clothing and accessories ment hemp and scratchy and uncomfortable.  Eco-friendly clothing has come along way since the hemp days and now it is both fashionable and comfortable.  You can find earth friendly clothing made from all kinds of materials including organic cotton, bamboo, and (our old favorite) hemp.  I have purchased several items made out of bamboo and have marveled at how soft the products are.  Bamboo is also a fabric that can absorb 3-4 times as much water than cotton allowing your skin to be comfortable and not sticky in the hot weather. Bamboo is also a great material to work with because it is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, maturing in only four years compared with the 25-70 years it takes for commercial trees to mature.  Bamboo can grow up to  4 feet each day! One great American company that specializes in creating stylish, comfortable clothing made out of bamboo is Bamboosa.

I was very excited to review Bamboosa‘s clothing because I have had a lot of clothing made from bamboo before and they are all super soft.  Bamboosa sent me their Priya skirt in Merlot Red for me to try out.  The Priya is the most comfortable skirt that I have ever worn.  It is made from Viscose (from organic bamboo) and Lycra and has two pockets sewed into it.  I love having pockets in my skirts to keep my keys or a small wallet in.  The skirt is very versatile allowing me to go from work, to the gym (where I change into yoga pants) and back home.  I love the red color.  It is very vibrant and hasn’t faded after several washings. The fabric is very light and airy making it a great swimsuit coverup.  It is long to golf in without wearing shorts underneath which is an added bonus.  I can see myself wearing this skirt a lot this summer! I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but when I find something I truly love I will wear it all the time.
