It has been about 3 months since our new Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer arrived and I still pinch myself every time I go into the laundry room.  These appliances have been amazing and I have loved every experience I have had with them.  It is hard to pinpoint my favorite feature of the Duet, but here are some of our most used features.

Precision Dispense

This very clever feature allows you to fill the Precision Dispense Ultra cartridge one time, and it will dispense just the right amount of detergent, bleach, and liquid fabric softener  for up to 36 loads of laundry!  This washer is so smart that it will automatically determine how much detergent is needed based on cycle, load size, and the soil level.  All you have to do is pour in your detergent, set the concentration level, and wash away.

Washing Machine Cycle Options

There are several different washing cycles available on the Duet washer.  There is a special cycle for jeans, delicate, whites, and for bulky items.  There is also an Allergen cycle that we use for our dog bed and bedding because my husband suffers from allergies and asthma.  If you normally hand wash some of your laundry, the Duet washer has a hand wash cycle that eliminates the need to hand wash items yourself!

Dryer Cycle Options

The dryer hasn’t been left out when Whirlpool created specialty cycles.  My favorite cycle so far has been the Quick Refresh option that allows me to put in a few items that are wrinkled (because I hate to iron and I often forget to get my clothes out of the dryer right away to avoid this from happening in the first place) and run them through the cycle.  They come out read to wear!  The Deep Clean Steam Cycle  penetrates deep into fabric fibers, breaking down and dissolving tough stains. The Jeans cycle makes sure that when the cycle is over your jeans are not damp while the rest of the load is dry (haven’t we all been there?).

The Computer Sensors

While most people might not think of this as a feature of the Duet Washer and Dryer, I can not tell you how handy the computer has been for my family.  The dryer alerted us that there was a ventilation issue and we were able to fix it.  The washer told us that we were not getting enough hot water into the washer to properly clean our clothes on the Hot cycle.  Any other washer/dryer appliance would not be smart enough to tell us and we might never have known.  We would still be trying to dry our clothes with a clogged vent pipe and we would still be washing our towels in cold water.

Whirlpool has options for everyone.  Their HE washers and dryers come in both front loading and top loading options at every price point. I would highly recommend the Duet washer and dryer as I can not say enough good things about it.  Thank you for following with me as I wrote about my experiences with my new washer and dryer.  I will continue to update everyone on my experiences with my laundry suite.

I still can’ t believe that I am actually writing this.  Somebody pinch me!!!  A couple of weeks ago we received our new Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer from Whirlpool trough a Mom Central ambassador campaign.  If you could have seen our old set, you would realize what a great campaign this is for us!  Our old dryer would literally take at least 2 hours to dry a normal load of clothes.  Our washer was okay, but it wasn’t anything fancy and we really just used one cycle on it.

Over the past few weeks my husband and I have never been more excited to wash our laundry. In fact, at one point during our first load of laundry, my husband runs up from downstairs and says, “Come quick! You have got to come down and see this!”  I run downstairs to find him staring at the washing machine as it is on its spin cycle.  It is so incredibly quiet that we both just look at each other in amazement and smiled.  Seeing how fast the washer was spinning and how quiet the washer sounded was amazing!

The dryer dried a load of our jeans in 37 minutes.  That’s right, it only took 37 minutes!  Did I mention that our previous dryer took over 2 hours to dry a normal load of clothes?  The dryer is also very smart and told us that there was a ventilation issue, so we went outside under our deck and cleared out some of the lint that was stuck in the exhaust.  I will admit that this could of caused our last dryer to not dry as fast, but come on, it took over 2 hours!  Not to mention that it wasn’t smart enough to tell us that there was a ventilation issue.

There are so many features to tell you about with the Duet that I will be updating my experiences over the next few months.  I just read about the FanFresh feature where I can was and dry a small load overnight!  I can’t wait to try it out and tell you all about it.

Back to school means back to the grindstone for this teacher/mommy.  One of my morning routines is making myself a very large cup of coffee to take with me as I drop TJ off at daycare and travel to work.  My husband doesn’t drink coffee, so I do this for myself.  I was wasting a lot of coffee by making a half a pot every morning and so I was very interested in trying a single serve coffee brewer. I have a Tassimo that I really love, but I have heard from several people that the Keurig is the way to go.  I had to try it for myself.

We received the Keurig Platinum Brewer to review.  This is the largest home use brewer that Keurig offers.  It is much larger than my Tassimo and takes up more space, but it isn’t any larger than our previous coffee maker that we used to have sitting on the counter.  I really like how the water reservoir is in the front of the machine.  It makes it very simple to fill the machine and refills are quick.  The machine is sturdy and built well.  I know several of my friends who have this machine who have had it for a while and use it every day.  It has held up remarkably well.  My sister in law also has this model and had an issue when she went to descale it, the customer service department at Keurig walked her through the process and sent her a new brewer when everything they tried didn’t work.  She was very pleased with the customer service that she received.

I couldn’t believe the variety of K-cups that are available.  I especially love that you can find K-cups practically everywhere.  I had to go to a particular store to buy my Tassimo discs, but every grocery store that I shop at had a nice selection of K-cups.  I found some wonderful flavors and brands that I love, there is something for everyone.  In addition to coffee, there is a variety of hot teas and hot cocoa available as well. I found a delicious decaf brand that I love from the Donut Shop!

I think that I might have mentioned that my Spring Break consisted of less than desirable weather.  It was the perfect opportunity to do a lot of the spring cleaning that I have been putting off for as long as possible.  The first project that I wanted to take care of was painting the inside of my house, specifically the hallway, bathroom, dining room and all the trim and doors.  It was a very large task and luckily ScotchBlue painters tape was there to help.

I love my freshly painted house!  It feels so clean and looks so nice (I realize that it is only a matter of time before TJ takes a crayon to it and I will be scrubbing it off).  After working so long on my house, I really needed a break.  Unfortunately, the weather was still not cooperating.  With the help of Twix Coconut, I used my imagination and some nice gifts that came with my gift bag to be taken on an alternative spring break (in my head)!

Call me crazy, but I spread the beach towel on my bed, sprayed the coconut spray around the room, grabbed a book and my new Twix Coconut and had my own special vacation, right in my own room!  It was so relaxing.  I had the house to myself, a good book and a delicious candy bar.  It was heaven.

The new Twix Coconut is a new twist to an old favorite.  I am usually not a huge fan of coconut, but I love Samoas (the Girl Scout cookie) and this candy bar was very similar.  Chocolate, crispy Twix cookie and of course, chocolate.  I love the crunch along with the chocolate and coconut. Strong fragrances and odors may aggravate allergy symptoms.

Keep the windows shut and use central air conditioning during high pollen seasons to help protect children from pollen particles that trees, grasses and weeds release into the air.  These particles can harbor in the eyes, nose, and airways, causing allergy symptoms to flair for those allergic to pollen. Also, give children washable, non-allergenic stuffed toys when possible, and be sure to wash the ones played with the most on a weekly basis, in hot water at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

• C is for Change: Change items that are easy to neglect but are important for maintaining a healthier home, such as leaky faucets, pipes and other high moisture areas that are common places for mold growth. In our house, we vacuum regularly, use an air purifier and we keep our windows closed during pollen season.  We also only purchase hypo-allergenic bedding for ourselves.  If we have the wrong kind of pillows my husband has a hard time breathing which means no one sleeps.  We are also give our dog regular trips to the tub to clean off any dead skin cells that could fall off when we pet him!  We are also having our basement checked for mold to ensure that our family stays healthy.

Have you seen all the commercials and advertisements about identity theft?  I have heard stories from people about how their identity was stolen and the their ruined their credit report and they couldn’t do anything about it.  These types of stories is what makes me a paranoid person.  Since hearing these stories, I have refused to throw any document away that has my personal information on it.  I have bank statements and credit card bills from the past 5 years packed away in closets and basements.  I knew I had to do something with them, but I was scared.  I have been saved (because my hubby is insisting I do a little purging) by my new Fellowes P-12C Paper Shredder.

October is National Window Covering Safety Month. This campaign focuses on raising awareness of the potential strangulation hazards that window cords can pose to young children and toddlers. I hate cleaning!  There, I have confessed, it is now out there for the world to know. I do it, but I definitely don’t look forward to it. I never really understood Monica on “Friends”.  She was a clean fanatic (maybe that is why I liked Rachel  better).  I never understood people like my old roommate who would vacuum twice a day, that is until I got my hands on the Oreck Platinum Pilot Vacuum.  Apparently all I needed was a little motivation (and an amazing appliance to help out).

The Oreck Platinum Pilot has changed the way that we clean our house.  We have been needing a vacuum for quite a while.  The one we have was from way back when I lived alone before I even met my husband, and it cost about $50.  It didn’t work so good.  As most of you who are readers of my blog know, we have a very large 120 pound dog and a toddler. This can be a very lethal combination when it comes to keeping dog hair off of the child.  We have hard wood floors and have mostly used a floor-mate  to keep it clean, but keeping the dog hair at bay has been a real challenge.

My husband put the Oreck together with relative ease.  It didn’t take that long and we were off vacuuming away.  My husband did the honors of the first vacuum with the Oreck.  The results were immediate.  After one pass of the living room we were in shock and awe in a great way.  The Oreck Platinum Pilot as a unique ball-joint and pivot connection that allows you maneuver the vacuum around furniture with a light touch.  The Oreck also has a small brush on the edge of the head of the vacuum that doesn’t allow any dirt to escape.  It is extremely light and easy to maneuver around the house.  It is so light that you can actually get it under a bed with ease.  The first time we did that we accidentally sucked up a hair headband  and had to take the vacuum apart to take it out (unbelievably easy to do).  Beware, the vacuum is extremely powerful.  We accidentally got a rope that was attached to one of TJ’s pull toys sucked up by it and it snapped the rope in half.
