My son and I love to snack. I am sure he learned it from me. I could eat several small snacks a day and go without the large meals. My husband, on the other hand, is a health nut and will only snack on healthy things that are good for him. I usually don’t like those things… until now!

TJ and I love them because they taste really good, and my husband loves them because they only have 90 calories per pouch. They are also very portable and I have been stuffing them into the diaper bag on our way out for a quick snack.

I am still in denial that baby girl is going to be here next week! I am so looking forward to not being pregnant ever again! Reality is starting to set in, however, because I haven’t been getting much sleep lately. The lack of sleep for the first few months is something that I am not looking forward to. I am fortunate to be off from school for the summer, but still I do have a three year old that still needs taking care of in addition to my newborn. I am going to be sleep deprived!

I remember the sleep deprivation with TJ. Trying to remember when the last time I fed him or changed his diaper became a chore, especially if I forgot to write it down. I knew there had to be a better way. I first saw the ITZBEEN baby care timer in a store when TJ was about a year old and thought to myself that if I ever was pregnant again, this would be the first thing I would buy.

So… what is a pocket nanny? The ITZBEEN Baby Care Timer is a multi-purpose tool that helps you remember the basic details of baby care. ITZBEEN has four timers that count up with the touch of a button…so you will always know how long it’s been since the last diaper change or feeding or nap! You can even program the last timer for whatever you need, medication maybe.

ITZBEEN™ Baby Care Timer was developed by a new mom and dad who found themselves sleep-deprived and needing help to remember baby care details, such as when their baby last ate or napped. They tried charts and journals, but thought there had to be a better way. So, they created the ITZBEEN™: a multi-purpose nursery tool that helps new parents remember the basic details of baby care. The ITZBEEN™ has four timers that count up with the touch of a button, and a host of other helpful features, all designed with the needs of a new parent in mind.

If you are a breastfeeding mom, there is even a little reminder switch letting you now what side your newborn nursed on during the last feeding. I haven’t had to use the timers yet, but I can tell you that the nightlight feature and the clock on the ITZBEEN have been a lifesaver over the past month. I often check it when I get up in the middle of the night for those frequent bathroom breaks that pregnant women have. I don’t want to wake up the hubby, so I just take my ITZBEEN with me to the restroom to find out what time it is. If it is already so helpful before the baby comes, just think at how helpful it is going to be afterwards.

The suggested retail price of the ITZBEEN Pocket Nanny is $24.99 and can be purchased at stores nationwide and at their website. It has been awarded a 2007 Juvenile Products Manufacturing Associations Innovation Award, and a 2007 iParenting Media Award for Best Baby Care Product.

Want to win one for yourself?

Win It

One (1) lucky reader will win an ITZBEEN Pocket Nanny in their choice of color (blue, pink or green).

As we all know, babies are expensive. The first time around we made sure that the products we bought for our firstborn would work for any additional children we might decide to have to help defray costs. Our stroller is a grey/blue that works for boys and girls. Our car seats are black and are gender neutral, and our diaper bag is brown and would work again for either a boy or a girl. We really have everything we need for this new baby. That is until I set my eyes on this:

It captured my heart when I opened it and saw this…

… the little bit of pink/purple sealed the deal. I wanted this bag. The problem? I already have a diaper bag that is in good shape and would work fine. I decided (after talking to my husband) that this one time I could splurge and buy the bag so I ordered it online and about a month later it came! I absolutely adore it (if you couldn’t tell). The Satchel diaper bag comes in several different patterns that any mom would love. My husband also said that it wasn’t too girlie for him to carry around if he needed to as well!

JJ Cole Collections has been making stylish baby products for parents for over 14 years. We love the stylish look of JJ Cole and have several of their products including the Diaper & Wipes Caddy and the Hamper in brown. These products look great in our nursery and work well with our gender neutral theme that we have going on since our kids are sharing a room for the time being.

I have also fallen in love with JJ Cole Collections Broadway Stroller, but then again there is the whole “we don’t need another stroller we already have a nice one,” thing to worry about. (Hey, he gave in on the diaper bag so there is still hope out there right?)

Recently, JJ Cole Collections sent me a set of Muslin Blankets in Primrose to welcome our new baby girl next month. I remember finding muslin blankets towards the end of TJ’s swaddling days. Muslin blankets are wonderful because they become softer after every wash and they are lightweight and breathable. I was a little skeptical at first, but its true! I couldn’t believe how soft the blankets get after being repeatedly washed. These JJ Cole muslin blankets are fantastic because they are very large. At 48 in x 48 in, you can still swaddle larger babies and older babies. I know we tried to swaddle TJ until he was about a year old. He loved it, but finding swaddle blankets that large is very difficult. I love these blankets because you can use them for more than just swaddling. They can be a receiving blanket, a blanket you can throw on the floor for baby to lay on, or a blanket to cover your infant seat when baby is sleeping. Check out how large these are:

I love the pink design. They also have a blue design that would work great for boys or if the mommy your buying for is keeping the gender a secret. You can purchase the Muslin Blanket set at stores nationwide as well as on JJ Cole Collection’s website for $21.95 for a set of two.

One of my biggest struggles with TJ is his eating habits. I thought I would be the mom who got her child to eat sushi and hummus. Vegetables were going to be a part of his vocabulary from day one. It was going to be fantastic! Well what a fantasy that was. We have struggled with the eating thing since he moved to table food. It seems like my perfect little boy was no longer perfect and it has been a tough road ever since.

I have needed all the help I can get when it comes to food. I recently was sent a copy of the book Food Fights: Winning the Nutritional Challenges of Parenthood Armed With Insight, Humor and a Bottle of Ketchup (American Academy of Pediatrics, March 2012) by Laura A. Jana, MD, FAAP and Jennifer Shu, MD, FAAP. This book is filled with great information and suggestions for picky eaters. Here is a short excerpt from the book:

Whining and Dining

According to the dictionary, whining is defined as complaining

through the use of a high-pitched or distressed cry. By our definition,

whining is an incredibly annoying yet seemingly unavoidable part

of childhood that at the end of a long day can have the same effect as

fingernails on a chalkboard. As it relates to dining, children are quick

to learn that whining can be an extremely effective way to get what they

want to eat and/or drink everywhere from the crib to the kitchen table

to the grocery store. It’s not hard to see how a child’s persistent whining

about food can cause a parent’s nutritional decision-making abilities to

become temporarily impaired. After all, it is a whole lot easier to yield

to whining for food rather than something you just can’t give in to—

Whining Away

When you find yourself faced with a child who whines about food, the

best thing you can do is come to the table prepared.

• Expect the Expected. Simply being aware that whining about food

(and just about everything else) is inevitable will hopefully allow you

to prepare yourself and keep it from grating on your nerves quite as

much as it otherwise might.

Whining and Dining

• Keep Your Cool. Whining is an intuitive way for your child to get

what she wants. It’s also her way of luring you into battle. We highly

recommend that you refuse to take part. If it’s food she wants, then

resist the urge to give it to her when the whining intensifies and you

find you can’t take it anymore. If whining is met with reward—or

even if you hold out but it becomes clear that it drives you nuts—

you can expect the agony to be prolonged.

• Let Whining Fall on Deaf Ears. Once your child is old enough to

really get into the swing of whining—usually around 3 or so—start

reinforcing the fact that her whining is going to fall on deaf ears.

If she is sitting at the table whining about what she does or doesn’t

want to eat for dinner, tell her as calmly as you possibly can that you

can’t understand her when she talks like that and ask her if she has

something to tell or ask you. If she continues to whine, go about your

business. If, on the other hand, she makes an attempt to rephrase

her “request,” be sure to acknowledge her efforts. Remember that

stopping mid-whine is a tough task at any age, so don’t expect her

to drop the whine entirely. It’s not settling for less to respond to a

toned-down snivel.

Mealtime Milestones:

What’s in a Whine?

• 9 Months. Starting as early as 9 months, kids learn to point with a purpose

as they figure out the benefits of pointing out what they want, including

food.

• 12 Months. Children typically utter their first words, and “no” is often one

of the stand-alone favorites.

• 2 Years. By this age, you can expect your child to put 2 words together—

as in “no way” or “want that.”

• 2–3 Years. Kids begin to make better use of basic manners such as

“Please” and “Thank you.” This, in turn, allows for the development of the

characteristic “puhleeeeeeeze” so commonly employed in the context of

whining and dining.

3 Years. At this age, kids can typically string together 3 or more words in a

single sentence, and 75% of what they say is supposed to be understandable

to parents and other caregivers. This means that the “I want one!” or

“I don’t like it!” is likely to come through loud and clear for all to hear.

• 4 Years. Even innocent bystanders should be able to understand most of a

4-year-old’s speech, whining or not. A more sophisticated form of whining

may ensue, including the classics: “How come she gets to have one and

I don’t?” “You never give me anything good!” and “Please, just this once

can’t I….”

I am still reading my way through the book, but I have learned quite a bit about what things to try and not to try. While I don’t expect TJ to miraculously start eating everything I put in front of him, I do appreciate the little hints that the book gives me. I also appreciate the humor, because lets face it, we can all use a little more humor!

Being a blogger, one might think that I am all up to date with the latest technology. Well, while it is partially true, the area that I have not been tech savvy in has been with smartphones. I still have my old, trusty cell phone that makes and receives calls. It has a camera (not a very good one) and will text, but I am extremely slow with it. While even my dad and mom have moved into using a blackberry and a smartphone, I am still in ancient land. So when Nokia asked if I would like to try out the all new Nokia Lumia Windows phone, I thought “Heck, why not!”

The first thing I noticed right out of the box was its sleek design. I love the white color of this phone. It also comes in black that my husband really likes. All I had to do was put in my T-Mobile SIM card and all of my information transferred over. I immediately started playing around with the settings and set the coloring to pink! I love the pink and white combination. For even more customization you can add a color cover.

It took me just a couple of minutes to get my Gmail account set up with the phone. The Nokia Drive app was already installed so I got to play around with that as well.

Features

Available in a black or white finish, with colored backs for customization, the Nokia Lumia 710 features a 3.7-inch ClearBlackWVGA scratch-resistant display (a must for those with curious children!) for outstanding outdoor viewing and a Qualcomm 1.4 GHz Snapdragon(TM) processor providing speedy access to entertainment and information on-the-go!

It also features a 5-megapixel camera with Nokia’s leading camera technology, enabling you to take pictures in almost any light condition and then share on social networks and with friends and family in under five seconds.

The pricing of the Nokia Lumia 710 is unmatched. Starting as low as $49.99, it’s the perfect phone for moms on a budget who need to stay connected!

The Nokia Lumia 710 features great tools like Office Notes for to-do and shopping lists, as well as apps such as Fandango, Groupon, CNNireport, and Nokia Drive.

Great apps for moms from Sesame Workshop, exclusive for Nokia Windows Phone users – available through the Windows Marketplace.

My Thoughts

It has been an easy transition into the smartphone market. Since I use a lot of social media, I have enjoyed having a lot of my online tools right in the palm of my hand. I have only used Mac products in the past, so getting to know Windows all over again was a little bit of a struggle, I just say that because I have an i-pad and an i-pod touch that I have been using for travel and on the go and I am very familiar with how they operate. I have used both facebook and Twitter successfully from this phone to stay in touch with my blogging buddies.

My old cell phone only had to be charged about once a week. If this phone has a weakness for me it would be its battery life. I found that I had to charge it at least once a day. I hear that its pretty normal for a smartphone to have to charge that much, but I am not used to that and found it to be a burden. I have had a lot of mommy brain lately and I have found that the phone has shut off a lot because I didn’t charge the battery.

Downloading apps from the app store is really simple. I found that the selection of apps is great with a little of everything for everyone in the family. The camera on this phone is a 5 megapixel and is much better than the one I have currently. Surfing the web is as simple as putting in the web address. I love seeing my blog in miniature form!

Overall, I would absolutely recommend this phone to anyone looking for a smartphone that is easy to use and affordable. I think this new Windows phone from Nokia is a great alternative to higher priced phones that do the exact same thing.

Want to win one for yourself?

What is a mom to do? Well, I was challenged by Hellmann’s to change up our chicken routine and create a recipe that the whole family will love. I decided to try the Succulent Chicken Parmesan recipe off of Hellmann’s website.

SUCCULENT CHICKEN PARMESAN

The juiciest & simplest chicken Parmesan recipe around

4 servings

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 23 minutes

1/4 cup Italian seasoned dry bread crumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves (about 1-1/4 lbs.)

1/4 cup Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise

1/2 cup Ragu® Old World Style® Pasta Sauce

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 2 oz.)

Preheat oven to 425°.

Combine bread crumbs with Parmesan cheese in shallow dish; set aside.

Add chicken and Hellmann’s® or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise to large plastic bag; shake to evenly coat. Remove chicken, then lightly coat in crumb mixture. Arrange chicken on baking sheet.

Bake 20 minutes. Evenly top chicken with Pasta Sauce, then mozzarella cheese. Bake an additional 3 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked and cheese is melted.

Hellmann’s has a lot of options for tasty chicken that the whole family will enjoy, even those picky eaters like my TJ. This recipe was a nice change from our normal baked chicken routine. My husband and I really enjoyed it. It was also so simple to make and didn’t take much time at all. I love that it was so easy and economical to make on a weekday after a long day at work. You can pair it with vegetables or pasta like we did.

From now until April 30, 2012, parents across the country can participate in the Hellmann’s® Chicken Change-up by trying one of the featured Hellmann’s® chicken recipes, sharing their recipe reviews and providing their own advice for managing dinnertime obstacles. After participating, consumers can enter into a sweepstakes for the chance to win a $5000 grocery store gift card and other daily prizes.

I had to save my favorite baby item for last! What a wonderful couple of months we had here at A Mom’s Impression. I loved bringing all of these wonderful baby items to you with amazing giveaways as well. All of these products are going to make welcoming baby girl in May so much easier. I do have a couple of more products that I will share this month, but for my grand finale, I am bringing you the baby item I could not possibly live without!

When TJ was born, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was a first time mom, and really in our family he was the first newborn. I didn’t know what products I would use, so I did a little research. This is how I decided to blog about product reviews. I knew from my research that I needed to get a breastfeeding pillow, and the Boppy received the most accolades so I decided to put that one on our registry.

While breastfeeding didn’t work out as planned (I ended up pumping the entire time), I couldn’t have lived without the Boppy. We had TJ laying in the Boppy everywhere. When we went on the plane to visit my family, the Boppy came with us. When TJ needed some extra support, we would run and get the Boppy. At the hospital when I was trying to breastfeed, the Boppy was an essential item that helped me get through it. When he was on our laps, we used the Boppy to support his little head! This product is very versatile and practical which probably has something to do with it winning the the number one baby product for the 9th time by readers of American Baby magazine!

The Boppy has been around for a little while, but what I love about this company is that they are always updating their products and improving them. The Boppy Pillow used to have to be thrown in the wash in order to get it clean, now they have removable covers in a very large assortment of fabrics and designs to choose from. With TJ, I got a “Three peas in a pod” design that was adorable! I also went and purchased a spare cover for when I was washing his usual one. Boppy recently created a travel pillow for moms on the go! I wish I had that for our plane trips with the baby, but I do know that the original Boppy also travels well. I also have a couple of other Boppy products that I love, the body pillow and these pads that save my changing pad from having to be washed about 4 times a day! I really couldn’t live without them! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find them this time around.

For little girls arrival, Boppy was kind enough to send me a Boppy pillow with an additional slipcover. I had such a hard time picking out what slipcover I wanted because of all the options available. I think there are over 25 different covers that you can find for your Boppy. I wanted something very girlie this time around so I picked out the Soft Pink Stripes Signiture Slipcover. This cover features brown and pink stripes on one side and soft pink minky fabric on the other. Perfect for any little girl!

I love the pink owl print that came with my Boppy Pillow. It is exactly what I wanted, very girlie! Last time I gave birth I made my husband run home and grab the Boppy Pillow. This time I know better and will be packing it in our suitcase for our trip to the hospital. I will make room!

So… now that you know why you need this pillow, here is your chance to win one for yourself!

In a few short weeks baby girl will be here! Its hard to believe that the time is finally here. From her first moment, we will be taking a lot of pictures. I think we took over a hundred on TJ’s first day! So what do you do with all those photos that you snapped at the hospital and during her first weeks of life? Shutterfly has some great ideas for welcoming baby. Here are 5 ways you can welcome baby with your photos:

Storybook of Facebook Photos
Pull pictures straight from a proud parent’s Facebook page to create this stunning personalized storybook for baby. It’s a sweet surprise for the family when you gift it upon meeting the child.

Birth Invitation
In this age of the modern family, parents aren’t the only ones in the room when baby makes his or her debut! A birth invitation is a formal way of getting those closest to you enthused about attending the labor and delivery.

The Moment We Met Momento
To commemorate the first moments shared between baby and special friends and relatives, use the images taken to create photo plaques that can be gifted or used as nursery deco

Explain the Name
Parents fret for months about choosing the perfect moniker for their child and often the story of how the name came to be is rather interesting. Include it on the back of the baby’s birth announcement.

Don’t Play Favorites!
It’s tough to choose a single portrait of baby so don’t! Have each family member (older siblings included) select their favorite snapshot to create a collage announcement.

Shutterfly also has prints and photo gifts that are perfect to give away to your loved ones to celebrate baby’s new arrival. I know that I used Shutterfly to order prints of my digital photos with TJ because I didn’t feel like bringing my memory card into the store and ordering prints. Doing it from home while he was sleeping was a lot easier!

I also used Shutterfly to create a photo book for TJ’s 2nd birthday last year. It was fun to display all the wonderful pictures of his second year to family and friends at his party. I plan on doing another one this month for his 3rd birthday at the end of the month. These photo books make great personalized keepsakes.

Well… I promised you a giveaway! Here it is:

My son has loved reading the Lorax over the past few weeks. We received the book in the mail along with some Seventh Generation Free & Clear Diapers to test out. Ever since the book came he has wanted us to read it to him as a “Night Night” story. I am happy to read it to him because it is such a great story about what happens if we use up all of our natural resources. I think that even at (almost) three years old, TJ understands that we need to treat the earth with respect. I can’t wait to watch the movie with him (when it comes out on video because I don’t think TJ is ready for the cineplex quite yet).

We try to reduce our carbon footprint in small ways. I love purchasing organic, earth-friendly products whenever I have the chance. We recycle at home and at school. I thought about cloth diapering, but I just don’t think we will be able to do it. So what else can we do to be earth-friendly. Luckily, even though we decided against cloth diapering, there are disposable diapers that use less-processed, chlorine-free wood pulp thus making them absorbent and environmentally friendly. Seventh Generation diapers and training pants do just that. Not only are they earth-friendly, but they work! We have been using them for over a week now and I can safely say that we haven’t had a leak yet. The Free & Clear diapers are hypoallergenic and free of fragrances that keep my son’s bum free from breakouts. The diapers also feature the Lorax reminding our family to be like the Lorax and take care of our earth!

In addition to the Free & Clear Diapers, Seventh Generation also has Free and Clear Training Pants and Overnight Diapers for keeping little ones dry throughout the night!

Using eco-friendly products is an important step toward teaching my children about conservation, and Seventh Generation and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax have joined forces to inspire families to save the earth’s resources with conscious consumption. Created with our little ones and the environment in mind, Seventh Generation is the natural choice for high-quality and effective products free of fragrances, latex, chlorine and other harmful chemicals. Make a difference by choosing Seventh Generation, now offering free shipping for orders over $50. As the Lorax says, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

How do you live like the Lorax? Tell Seventh Generation below and be entered to win a Green Your Home prize pack!
