This holiday season I was invited to spend some money in the Marketplace to raise money for my school.  It was extremely easy to set up and to verify that my purchases would go towards my school.  I have a few family and friends that I still need to shop for, so spending the money and finding the perfect store was going to be easy.

I started my shopping at Chefs.com where I purchased a meat thermometer for my brother in law. (Don’t tell him, you will ruin the surprise).  The thermometer was $20 so I earned 9 ebox tops for my school.  Each ebox top is worth .10 so I earned my school almost a dollar just for purchasing something online that I would have purchased anyways.  As I do most of my holiday shopping online, there is the potential for earning a lot of money for my school.

There are so many stores available in the Marketplace.  All of my favorites are there including The Loft, Disneystore.com, Gap, DSW, Target, and UGG just to name a few.  I was able to get an ornament for my son from Disney for $15 and earned 4 ebox tops!

For myself, I went to Target.com and purchased some holiday decor for about $15 and earned another 2 ebox tops.  Altogether I spent about $50 and earned my school 15 ebox tops for a total of $1.50.  While that may not sound like a lot, think about if everyone in your school community shopped through the Box Top for Education Marketplace this holiday season?  A little bit can add up to a lot.

, Christmas time again.  ‘Tis the season to be jolly, to be next to the ones we love, to be thankful for all we have and…. to gain about 5 pounds eating all the yummy things that are put in front of us during the month of December.  It is also the time to string up Christmas lights around the house.  This is not my favorite part of the holiday season.

 When we moved into our house, we inherited a very old, large, wooden ladder.  This is the ladder I have used for the past 7 years that we have lived in this house.  It is heavy, awkward and I run the risk of getting splinters every time that I use it.  It has no ability to collapse any smaller than it’s full length, so it takes up a whole wall in my garage.  I have found myself making excuses not to do any work on my house that requires a ladder, mostly because I have to use that thing.  The leaves that are still in my gutter from this fall can attest to that!

This is why I was so excited to learn that I was going to get the opportunity to review the Little Giant Ladder System.  I have seen the advertisements for these ladders on TV and I thought they looked extremely cool.  But, everything looks cool on TV, right?  So, I couldn’t wait to get my ladder delivered to me so I could quickly put it to use putting up my Christmas lights.

I was sent the Little Giant Xtreme Ladder System.  After the box was sent to me, I brought it out to my garage and opened it up.  I was very please to see that there was virtually no assembly required.  It slid right out of the box ready to use.  From watching the commercials and looking on the website prior to receiving the ladder, I had a general knowledge of how it was supposed to work.  With literally 20 seconds worth of fooling around with it, I was able to quickly figure out how to adjust the height and settings on it.

 The main selling point on these ladders is that it is really 24 ladders all in one.  Obviously, this includes an extension and a stepladder.  But the different combinations and ways you can adjust this ladder prepare you for virtually any environment that the world will throw at you, from uneven ground, to stairs, to uneven walls.  You can also separate the ladder into two trestles and make scaffolding out of it.  I hope I am doing justice to the amount of mind-blowing things that this ladder can do, but to get the full idea, I think you’d have to actually see it in action.  Yes, I said “see it in action”… a ladder… it is the only was I can describe it.  I’d start with this video:

All of this and it only weighs 34.5 lbs.  My model adjusts to a full height of 15 feet (a larger model goes up to 17 feet) but its storage height is just 4 feet and seven inches.  Each rung has a weight capacity of 300 lbs (so I don’t have to worry about all the horrible food I am eating this month!) and there is a lifetime warranty.  These ladders are made here in America.  It is great to see such a quality product being made here in our country.

The Little Giant Xtreme also comes with a magnetic tray (genius!) that will keep your paintbrushes and tools on it.  You can also buy several other options to go with your ladder, including a paint bucket, a cargo hold, a work plank, a leg leveler, a ladder rack and number other accessories listed on the website.

I was able to put up my Christmas lights in no time.  I continued to be amazed by the ease of which I was able to use this amazing ladder.  I will use it again when I take my lights down in January.  And yes, when I finally get to my leaves next spring, the Little Giant will be there with me.

With the holidays right around the corner, my husband and I are in super cleaning mode.  It’s almost like spring cleaning, however we decided to take the approach of “fall cleaning” and not only winterize the outside of our home, but we have decided to get the inside ready for the company that we will be hosting in the next month.  With the help of several handy products from SC Johnson, we have been able to get our house in tip top shape and keep it that way- even with a toddler and a wild dog.  My husband is obsessed with the Pledge Multi Surface Everyday Cleaner.  He uses it to dust tables, clean counters , clean our television screen and even mop our laminate wood floors!  It’s a cleaner for any man – just one can for any job.   It’s convenient and cleans without streaks or smells.  He also uses the Windex Electronic Wipes daily on his “man toys” like his Iphone, Xbox and flat screen t.v.  These wipes are great at safely taking off baby fingerprints and smudges because of Windex’s gentle formula.  But while he’s cleaning his toys, I am loving the Pledge Fabric Sweeper that is specifically made for Pet Hair.  As much as we love our dog Brady, he sure sheds!  We have become accustomed to vacuuming our couches weekly but the Pledge Fabric Sweeper is the perfect quick topper to pick up any left over hair the vacuum doesn’t get.  I like to use it when I need a quick sweep of the couches before company or if I think I can’t handle the hair until the Saturday cleaning day.  Just like the spray and wipes, the sweeper is super convenient and easy to use – it’s a great chore for your kids!

My absolute least favorite part of cleaning is the bathroom.  Unfortunately, it’s the room that needs it the most and the one that will be frequently visited by our company this holiday season.  Luckily, Scrubbing Bubbles has decided to make my job easier!  Before I get started on the bathroom, I spray Scrubbing Bubbles Extend-A-Clean Mega Shower Foamer on the walls and tub of the shower to let it sit as I’m cleaning the rest of the bathroom.  Then, when it’s time to scrub the shower, the Mega Shower Foamer has already done my job by literally loosing up the dirt and grime that normally would have to be scrubbed off.  All I have to do is wipe it down and rinse and it’s ready to go!  What’s even better about the Extend-A-Clean is the active cleaners in the solution that work for days after to keep your shower clean.  But let’s not forget about the toilet.  Scrubbing Bubbles Continuous Clean Toilet Cleaning Gel is super easy and helpful to use.  Basically you just stamp on the gel disc to the side of the toilet and the disc will clean with every flush.  One package lasts up to 6 weeks, which will run us just past the holidays so there is less time spent cleaning those dreadful toilets!  Scrubbing Bubbles’ products have eased my bathroom duty as well as my mind, ensuring me of a clean bathroom for my upcoming guests.
Another product that has saved me a lot of time as we get our house ready this holiday season is the Shout Color Catcher.  Instead of running small loads of different colors, I can combine them into one larger load and throw one of these sheets right in the washer with the clothes.  The Color Catcher sheet will change color and absorb any loose dyes that may become free during the wash as well as prevents dyes from bleeding and running onto other clothes.  These sheets have saved me tons of time sorting the many piles of laundry that accumulate up in this family!

I love an easy recipe.  Being a busy mom, wife, and teacher can take its toll on dinner.  I love to cook, but sometimes after a long day at work I can use a little help.  Betty Crocker makes creating a delicious meal fast and easy.  With all the different options that Betty Crocker offers, there is a potato pouch perfect for most any meal.  This time I took a box of Potatoes Au Gratin and made a yummy ham and peas dish out of it.  I took a lot of help from the store and used frozen peas (that I thawed) and diced ham.  It turned out to be a very yummy dish.  This is perfect as a side or for a meal.

Ingredients

• 1 Box Betty Crocker Au Gratin Potatoes
• 2 Tablespoons Butter
• 2 Cups Boiling Water
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 cup diced ham
• 1/2 cup cooked peas

Directions

1. Prepare potatoes according to package directions.
2. Layer on Ham
3. Layer on Peas
4. Stir to incorporate
5. Bake at 450 degrees for 20-25 minutes

I love creating new recipes.  I often use store bought ingredients to help out as I am a busy mom and have a limited amount of time on my hands. I love the challenge of mixing fresh ingredients with ready made ingredients and the result is a yummy dish of food for my family.

I have always been fond of Betty Crocker products, but I hadn’t tried their mashed potatoes before.  Seeing as how I am from Idaho, we know how to make mashed potatoes from scratch, but it isn’t a quick process.  I love making potato croquettes from left over mashed potatoes, so I thought I would take Betty Crocker Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes and make them into croquettes.  The result, an extremely yummy appetizer or lunch!

Ingredients

• 1 pouch Betty Crocker Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
• 1 1/3 cup water
• 1/2 cup whole milk
• 2 1/2 tablespoons butter
• 1 tablespoon flour
• 1 egg
• Bacon (optional, I used bacon bits)
• 1/2 cup cheddar cheese (or your families favorite kind of cheese)
• Bread crumbs
• Vegetable Oil for frying
• Sour Cream for dipping

Directions

• Prepare Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes according to package directions.  Let cool completely.
• In a large mixing bowl mix egg, bacon, cheese, flour and potatoes together.
• Will a small scoop, portion out potato mixture into small balls and place on parchment paper.  Put this into the freezer for about 5 minutes.

• Roll potato balls into bread crumbs pressing down to make flat cakes.  Make sure bread crumbs completely cover the potato mixture.
• In a deep skillet, heat about a 1/2 inch of vegetable oil.  Place croquettes into the oil and fry for about 3 minutes each side.
• Serve with a side of sour cream!

Wondering what is hot in the movie theatres right now?  The #1 movie at the box office currently is Dream Works’ robot boxing movie, Real Steel.

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

“Real Steel” is directed by Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum” franchise and “Date Night”).

I have had a lot of friends watch this movie in the past few weeks and most of them are raving about how good of a movie Real Steel turned out to be.  Most of these friends, like myself, are not fans of boxing but enjoyed the story of a father reconnecting with his son.  Here is a short clip for your enjoyment:
