My son was born with bad skin.  His entire first year was horrible as far as finding products that worked for his exzema and very dry skin.  I hate that he inherited that from his mommy.  Most of the products that were on the market would irritate his sensitive skin.  We tried almost everything.  Aquaphor Healing Ointment was one of a very few products that wouldn’t irritate TJ’s skin.  We always had a couple of tubes in our house on hand for breakouts.  The other day I heard through another blogger that Aquaphor also has a Shampoo and Wash and I couldn’t wait to try it out.  I have not been very happy with TJ’s current shampoo.  While the bottle said that it was tear-free, but TJ hated it and cried when we washed his hair.  Earlier this week, we received a package from Aquaphor with a tube of Healing Ointment and a bottle of Gentle Wash and Shampoo.

I can already tell a difference in a short week!  The first major difference is that TJ doesn’t mind having his hair washed!  When Aquaphor says that it is tear-free, they really mean it.  As it is the middle of winter, TJ’s skin has been really dry.  The body wash has been helping with that.  When I put lotion on his legs, they don’t feel quite as dry as they have in the weeks prior to using the wash.  I have been using the ointment on TJ’s rough, dry spots and they are getting a lot better.

I love how easy KitchenAid makes their products.  There are three buttons ON, OFF and PULSE. It is so simple.  All you need to do is insert your blade, load up the bowl, turn the machine on and push PULSE.   I made my hummus in less than 5 minutes!

The Chef’s Accessory Case keeps all of your food processor blades, discs, and accessories and protects them from nicks. It is very convenient to have everything in one handy little container.  Not to mention it helps to ensure you don’t lose anything (something that I am notorious for).

In the back of the picture above you can see the Mini Bowl that comes with a Mini Blade.  This 4-cup bowl is perfect for those small jobs that you don’t need a full 12 cup machine to do.  Its like getting two machines in one.  It is so nice to not have to dirty up the entire food processor for dicing up one onion, or making a small sauce.  It fits right into the larger bowl for easy use.

Cleanup is easy with dishwasher safe parts!  I simply put the machine’s parts in the upper level of my dishwasher and the mess is gone!

The only negatives that I have found are small, the cord is a little short and the machine itself is heavy.  This won’t be a problem for those with a lot of counter space, but I have to bring it up from my basement pantry every time I use it and it can get a little heavy.  A little price to pay for such a fantastic machine.

The cold and flu season is upon us.  I am so busy this holiday season that I can not afford to not get a good 7-8 hours of sleep at night.  If I don’t, I am a less effective teacher and mom.  Luckily Breathe Right has a non-medication solution to help make sure I get the sleep I need. I was very excited when Swanson wanted me to participate in the The Great Stuffing Debate.  I went to the store and picked up a few ingredients including Swanson Broth.

I thought I should probably cook a very simple stuffing as my practice stuffing so I stuck to the traditional stuffing recipe on the back of the stuffing bag. It really was quite simple.  I wasn’t too happy with the way it turned out (my husband loved it, I guess there really is a debate) so I think that I will continue practicing tomorrow before making my final version for the holidays.  This is what it looked like:

I have been cooking with Swanson ever since I fell in love with Rachael Ray on Food Network.  She kept saying over and over how you need to layer flavors and any time you can add flavor you should and this included cooking with a lot of stock.  She is right!  Using chicken broth or stock in recipes instead of water has made my cooking more flavorful and a lot less bland.  While I am not an expert cook (yet, I mean I have never made a stuffing before right), I have become a better chef because of Swanson.
