I haven’t always been smart about my money. In fact, we are currently almost finished paying off some of my more brilliant financial moves that I made in my twenties. I have made a lot of mistakes and don’t want to see my son follow in my footsteps. Teaching TJ to be economically savvy at age 1 1/2 may sound foolish to some, but it is a high priority in our household. So how do you teach children to be smart with their money? Money Savvy Generation has created several products to help teach kids economic skills that will be vital in years to come.
The Money Savvy Pig was created by Susan Beacham, a mom of 2 girls and a private banker who through her professional life repeatedly saw adults struggling with even the most basic concepts of personal finance. So she decided to do something about this by creating something that would help children as young as Kindergarten learn about the choices they have for their money, which in turn would help them to establish good money habits as they grow. So with her husband Michael, they started Money Savvy Generation and introduced her creation, the Money Savvy Pig piggy bank - a unique bank that has 4 “tummies” and introduces children (ages 4 to 11) to the four choices they have for money: SAVE, SPEND, DONATE and INVEST. The bank has been honored with the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, NAPPA Gold and a Creative Child Award and is joined by its “cousins” – Moolah, the Money Savvy Cow and the Money Savvy Football banks.
Here is the Money Savvy Pig perfect for a boy or girl and is available in several different colors.
We chose Moolah the Money Savvy Cow for TJ to learn about being smart with his money (once he has some). As soon as he understands about saving, we plan on using the Money Savvy Cow as a tool to teach him essential money management skills that I wish I had learned early on. Any of these adorable banks will be
