On my journey to be more eco-friendly I read about a company who designs showerhead with a new technology called ShowerStart. This technology essentially allows you to start your shower, walk away from it to do something you need to do, and it will slow to a trickle when the water is heated to 95 degrees. Here is a little more about the ShowerStart technology from the makers of these eco-friendly showerheads, Evolve Showerheads:
We wanted a way to save time, water and energy without having to make sacrifices or behavior changes. You see, we figured that many people were probably a lot like us in their morning routine – really busy running around to get out of the door on time. So to save a little time we typically turn on the shower and sneak away to do something else while waiting for the water to warm-up.
We brush our teeth, use the toilet, make our beds, we even hug our kids … When we get back to the shower it’s warm and ready … but how much hot water just accidentally ran down the drain? Even a little adds up to be a lot. Losing only 1 minute of hot water per shower can mean an additional $75 in utility bills and 2,7000 gallons of water wasted per year – and that’s for a family of three.
ShowerStart technology changes that equation because it watches the shower’s temperature and “triggers a trickle” as soon as the shower is warm enough to jump in. This prevents your hot water from inadvertently running down the drain before you can hop in the shower. Not only have you eliminated the water and energy waste, but the sound of the trickle tells you that your shower’s ready. The hot water for your shower is now warm and waiting instead of warm and wasted.
Evolve Showerheads sent our family a Water Lily showerhead to review. We have used this showerhead for almost two months now and we love it! I love the rain shower that the Water Lily provides. I feel like I am in one of those luxury hotels that have great bathrooms that you never want to leave. I have used rain showerheads before, but I was really impressed by how strong the spray is on the Water Lily. Once I got it a little too warm and had to turn the cold water up quickly (if you monitor how hot your water heater heats your water this would be a non-issue). Our water bill has gone down a couple of bucks in the past couple of months. It might not seem like a lot but if you add it up at the end of the year it does save us a little bit of money. More importantly, I feel like I am helping reduce my carbon footprint on the world by saving water and energy. Selfishly, I love this showerhead, I don’t know how I ever lived without it!

This is such a great idea! I totally do that to, especially in the winter. Who wants to jump in cold water when it’s already about 50 degrees in the house? I’d want to try the Emperor Handheld Shower head. My husband likes the wider shower heads, and I am short so Handhelds help me wash my hair better. It’d suit us both really well.

I pamper myself by following some old tips from Mary Kay. In the shower, I make sure I lather the soap really well and then make small circles with my loofah as I wash myself. I also use her tips for washing my hair, I rinse out my shampoo with cool water and then ring out as much water as I can before putting on the conditioner. I let the conditioner sit for the rest of the shower while I do whatever else needs to be done. Afterwards, I wrap my hair up in a towel, slip on my robe (that I keep close to the heater in winter so its nice and warm!) and apply lotion and cream. I take short showers, but after my little routine I feel so refreshed and ready to tackle anything!

I pamper myself by sending everyone away from the house; I send the kids to their friends or to Gramma’s and the hubs to go shoot something. Then, I find a good movie, make some hot chocolate and find a yummy snack and snuggle up on the couch with my pillow and blankets. And if they are gone long enough I just might take a nap.
