The Little Environmentalists (Giveaway) (Closed)

I am constantly trying to find ways to encourage my students to take care of the planet in their own small way.  We recycle in our classroom and collect juice pouches from our lunches to be reused and turned into pencil pouches (through Teracycle).  We might only be in kindergarten, but I believe it is important to teach children how to take care of the planet we live in at an early age.

I was fortunate to receive two special books from The Little Environmentalists to review.  The first book I reviewed is Nature Discovery In My Backyard, written by Rebecca Mattano and designed by Keara Harris.  Nature Discovery In My Backyard is a book full of photographs of a little girl discovering different plants, animals, and insects in her backyard.  I appreciate the book because it incorporates nature, discovery, and the ability to use your senses into the story.  The book uses rhyme and repetition to encourage even the youngest readers to enjoy the book.  For parents and educators there are tips for nature discovery and nature notes included in the back of the book.  Nature Discovery In My Backyard is a wonderful book for any educator of young children to incorporate into their science curriculum.

The second book I reviewed is Go Green With Me, written by Rebecca Mattano and Kristen Collier, and illustrated by Kevin Scott Collier.    This book follows a little girl around her community as she teaches you little things you can do to help the environment.  She helps young children learn that we can help the environment by turning off the water faucet when brushing your teeth.  She teaches us about recycling, composting, and eating organic foods.  I really appreciate the message being relatable for young children.  This book would be a perfect addition for Earth Day reading.  For parents and educators there are earth notes in the back of the book that include simple steps that every family can take to conserve natural resources.  This book is a great way for parents to introduce environmentalism to their child.  Either of these books will be a great addition to your family library.
