When I was a kid we built forts out in the fields and played outside all day only to come home when our dad whistled for us. I wish that my son could have the same opportunities. Living in a large metropolitan city with a high crime rate pretty much prohibits that much lack of supervision. However, I do want to foster in our son using your imagination while you play! There are so many different video gaming systems and computer games on the market for kids. (Don’t get me wrong, I think video games have their place and their own value in our lives, but they need to be used in moderation.) Along with television and video games can come a lack of imagination and creativity in our children and a delay in gross motor skills (by not being active). ImagiPLAY toys helps connect kids with their imagination.
ImagiPLAY toys combines imagination with all natural wood and lead-free paint to create wonderful toys that kids of all ages will enjoy. Here is a little bit about the company from their website:
“For over a decade, ImagiPLAY has created high-quality educational toys that inspire children’s imaginations and the desire to explore. With the abundance of toys available for children today, ImagiPLAY sets itself apart from the rest through its motto: “Toys with Integrity.” By producing quality products that connect with nature, have eco-friendly sources, and hold educational value, ImagiPLAY works to benefit the earth we share and the people that inhabit it.”
ImagiPLAY sent us their Veggie Cutting Set for our family to try. BJ is a little young yet to fully appreciate the cutting set (he mainly just banged the veggies around and then put them in his mouth), but I think it is a great idea and I am sure
he will love it just as much as I do in another year. Included in the set is 5 vegetables (carrot, pepper, mushroom, tomato, and cucumber) that are segmented and secured with velcro allowing kids to use the included wooden knife and cutting board to “cut” the vegetables. After you finish cutting up all the vegetables you can re-attach them easily and do it all over again.
The Veggie Cutting Set encourages development of fine motor skills and allows kids to pretend to be a chef just like mommy and daddy. I would have loved to incorporate the Veggie Cutting Set into my kindergarten classroom, but unfortunately I had to remove my play kitchen. This activity set would be perfect for 2-6 year olds who want to “cook” for their families (or stuffed animals). I especially love that the Veggie Cutting Set is made out of all-natural earth friendly rubberwood. All of their wooden toys are made using lead-free paint so I don’t have to worry that BJ is putting the veggies in his mouth. I can feel like I am helping the world in a small way by purchasing toys from an eco-friendly company.
